The Burning Barrel, local farm-restaurant, unveils new features for this summer

When you’re seated on The Burning Barrel porch, overlooking 30 acres of Kansas prairie, you may realize it’s more than a farm, restaurant, and events space: it’s a celebration of our relationships with nature and each other.

Co-owners Brian Strecker and Kristin Werner are partners in both life and business. Brian is a chef whose passion for the freshest ingredient comes from his classical French training and decades of restaurant experience, and Kristin has been studying farming and holistic lifeways for 20 years. The result? A practice in regenerative agriculture where they share the fruits of their labor with the community.

This episodes comes full-circle from our very first episode of Lawrence Times TV, published in September 2022, when we covered The Burning Barrel’s opening season. We revisit The Burning Barrel in this “where are they now”-style segment to showcase their array of new features, including a glassed-in dining porch, new fire kitchen, distiller’s license, a full slate of summer event programming, and new hoop house for growing vegetables.
